Delta Companies Group Announces New Baytown Facility

DELAWARE, Ohio, April 27, 2010 -- Delta Companies Group (Delta), a wholly owned subsidiary of Greif, Inc. ( GEF, GEF.B), has initiated Greenfield construction of a multi-client packaging service complex at the AmeriPort Industrial Park in Chambers County, Texas The site is scheduled to open in September 2010.

The Design

When completed, the facility will incorporate Lean Manufacturing Concepts and Principles to improve Safety, Quality, Efficiency, and Flexibility. Delta Baytown will strike the balance between state of the art equipment and experience. Designed by Delta’s team of Operational Excellence Engineers with decades of related work knowledge, initial capacity will be 1,000,000 drum equivalents annually with the ability to incrementally add additional capacity with minimal effort. Initially slated to provide packaging solutions for clients, the future state will include blending, white room capability, solid packaging, and other logistical services that make Delta a one-stop-shop. Delta’s current core competencies include:

  • chemicals packaging into IBCs, drums, pails, and other packages
  • bulk trans-loading (ISO to Tanker Truck to Rail Car – incl. any variation)
  • warehousing and shipping
  • handling a diverse range of chemicals and hazard groups

The 200,000 square foot operation will boast one of the most versatile sites for packaging service complexity. The site capabilities also include:

  • AFFF Foam Fire Suppression System
  • Lab Services
  • Temperature Control Storage
  • Thermal Oxidation Abatement
  • Fully Automated Filling Line
  • Drum heating capability
  • Dedrumming capability
  • Bar Code Technology – Warehousing & Shipping Accuracy

The Infrastructure

AmeriPort Industrial Park is located just south of Interstate 10 off both FM 565 and the Grand Parkway (Spur 99). With a close proximity to both Bayport and Barbours Cut terminals, drayage to the ports will provide our clients a competitive advantage to a complex supply chain. The industrial complex will provide other advantages such as:
